The video for the campaign for Rio 2016, directed by Fernando Meirelles, was astonishing, showing how incredable Rio is. In fact, in my opinion, Rio is the most beatiful city in the world when it comes to natural beauties inside a city. Huge rocks all over the place, great beaches, forests, etc. And not only of natural beauties the city is made ( if it was, it wouldn’t be a city afterall ), it has great ancient buildings from the colonization era, beautiful houses, and the list goes on.
But what really amazed me in the video, is the fact that how it is faced like pure propaganda. We have 2:30 minutes of eye candy, to show why the olympic games should come to Rio. But people forget about the fact that Rio, despite of being a beautiful city, is one of the most violent cities in the world, owned by drugdealers (not litterally, but they control a huge part of the city ). I know a guy in Rio that had dove under his car to take cover from a firefight between drugdealers twice. This is dangerous.
In this campaign, we are talking about bringing people to Rio, not about a website, or a poorly designed software. This can actually be dangerous, and cause a lot of problems to a lot of people.
We also know that brazillian politicias, in the vast majority, forgot the meaning of the world honesty, so the huge amount of money that will come to the olympics, have a big chance to be drawn to a few pockets, and never reach it’s original destination.
So, my thoughts on this Rio 2016 thing aren’t good at all, I think a lot of people will get hurt, but I also hope my imagintaion is wrong this time, but judging from the facts I see and read on a daily basis, this is the most rational path.
Congartulations to everyone that crafted that awesome looking video. It shows the best part of Rio.
