The Jack of All Trades

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, design a building, conn a ship, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve an equation, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” Robert A. Heinlein

This just caught my eye at Webdesigner Depot. In my opinion, the Jack of all trades will always be a great professional, since he can see things from different perspectives. A designer that can code a little, will design things thinking if the coding if possible. He doesn’t need to be an Ace in 4 different languages of webcode. He just needs to know his way around some HTML/CSS and PHP, for example, and his layouts will be more solid than from a designer that knows nothing about code. The other way is also true. A master coder, with a little knowledge of design and layout will pay attention to the details of the layout, and not make the mistakes usually seen when a designer sends a layout (PSD ) for the coder, and when the site comes back, it is a bit different, with things not precisely aligned, different font sizes and so on.

A lot of things can be improved with a a little knowledge. I’m ultimately driven by knowledge, and that’s first thing a Jack needs to have. Do you consider yourself a Jack?

Pure – Digital Cover for a Trance Music Album

pure

I designed this cover for is the newest EP, Pure, released by PatchBay. He is already 11º on the Top 100 in Psy-Trance at Beatport.com, by the time of this post.

The concept of the cover is simple. He asked me if I could use some water on the cover to relate with te purity of the water, and the water god in India.

Since I’m not that high on my concepts, I searched for something more earth related to create the cover, but also keeping in mind my clients concept.

He is one of the best musicians I know. He dedicates all of his time to music, it’s unbelievable how much he likes to craft music, and the fun he has doing it. So I started to work on that concept: the pure fun and joy to do something. I remenbered a video I saw about dolphins having fun with ring bubbles, and I found that those dolphins were having their fun, in the most pure way.

That’s the story of this cover. A beautiful cover, in my opinion.

Here goes the video of the dolphins. Quite entertaining.

Palm Springs International Film Festival 2009

The opener video for the Palm Springs International Film Short Fest 2009. Directed by Justin Weber and produced by Danny Robashkin and Oren Robashkin at Make.

Very interesting how it shows the daily issues that an art director has when creating/directing, and the wide variety of techniques available now.
Must see!

The Path for World Domination

They have already dominated the world. And we aren’t even seeing it. Google launched the Sidewiki application, and very little people noticed it. At least here in Brazil, almost no one knows about it. This application does one thing. It makes the whole internet a social environment. It’s true. Every single webpage can be commented, and every user of the Sidewiki app will be able to see those comments. I can see great things coming from it.When you just enters a page you can have impressions about it, before navigating in it. This will have some implications on how a user will form his first impression on the site. Another important thing that propabably will happen is that since the owner of the page has no control over the comments, bad comments will be exposed on their websites. This can work in 2 ways: The website owner will be hit by the comments, or he can use the comments to improve his page. And ask for more opinions from other people about the changes, and all. I can also see poeple faking comments, and other dubious actions, but that’s just part of the chaotic environment of the web.

Be part of it, download Google Side Wiki

I’m also watching the long video of the presentation of Google Wave, which from what the big guys are talking about, will be a huge blast.
