How amazing this world can be! I just saw the National Geographic’s International Photography Contest 2009 at Big Picture. Those pictures makes me wanna leave this office right now, and get some wild place with my camera. It’s at least inspiring, lifewise.

Sydney was hit by a sand storm yesterday. It made the city uber photogenic, and there are tons of pictures at the Red Sydney Project.

Rod, from creativeroots, made a nice post about a book published in 1985 by William Collins Sons & Co. Ltd. 100 photographers, took thousands of pictures in one day in Japan ( June, 7, 1985 ). Some really crazy things, specially when you think that it all was happening almost 25 years ago.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Pink Floyd. I like all the songs and the covers are amazing. With crazy psychodelic images, and strange type, I’ve always amused myself with their graphic material. Later on, after I started studying graphic design I researched the interwebs and found out that all their covers, books, posters, etc. have been deisgned by the same guy, Storm Thorgerson. He have always been a friend of the band, and did all their artwork. He have always been a member of the British graphic art group Hipgnosis and his studio, known as Storm Studios does mostly album covers, and music related material, but he also does other stuff, like videos, websites, logos and documentaries. His website is non-conventional and worth a visit. Everything in his work is affected by a surreal aura, with objects placed out of their conventional places, and photography is the most used tool to communicate. He has been working with some great musicians like Bruce Dickinson, Younger Brother, The Cranberries, Shpongle, etc. without mentioning the great Pink Floyd and the solo albuns from Pink Floyd members. As a designer I don’t like most of the advertising I see, since they aren’t much design oriented, and they lack simplicity and crativity. But this is not the case. In fact it’s the oposite. A very simple ad, with a lot of brand identity in it.

This is a fine example of how photography and a good idea can do all the work.
